In part, of course. If a QB with fantastic potential is badly injured
early in their career, never to reach his potential, will he ever be
considered great? If a QB with potential ends up on a team with a
featherweight O-line and is stuck in the line of fire right away, gets
pounded half to death and as a result never reaches his potential he
will never be considered great.

But my real point, perhaps not well expressed, was that a quarterback
excels at his position by being cool under pressure more than any
other factor and that there is no greater test of that talent than in
post season games when the pressure is that much greater.

I actually agree with what Byron said about Marino being one of the
best but not being in contention for best ever honors. He probably
was the most talented pocket passer I've ever seen, but he could be
rattled. He hated getting sacked.

Certainly Manning has the potential to be one of the very best, but
IMO, he has a few more ladders to climb.
