What do you mean by "tiled view"?
For spam, maybe try Mailwasher?
Some mail clients have Bayesian spam filters available as add-ons. I
don't know which ones, but if you found something with the "tiled view"
that the filter were available as an add-on for, that would do you.
(And yeah, the Thunderbird spam filtering sucks. Not as annoying as the
"junk" detection feature in Eudora, though -- I have to go through the
"Junk" folder every week and rescue things. I've just started using
Mailwasher for that, though, and it's been helpful there.)
