>> The sort of thing that happens every day in Iraq...

>Ahhhhhhhhh......no it doesn't.....no no no.....not at
all.

we don't lose 30 americans a day in iraq every day,
but there are many days when many more times that
amount are slaughtered, if you count iraqis caught in
the cross fire as innocent victims...
30 people dying at baghdad university may not be an
everyday occurrence, but neither is what happened at
virginia tech. to quote bill maher, "32 dead is a
good day in iraq"...

Soldiers do get their pictures on CNN, as do the VA
tech. students. Don't we care about those young men
and women?
I think we do. The memorials for these people tend to
be a lot more
private and localized...often a cross, burned out
candles, and molding teddy bears.

We have national mourning when the nation as a whole
is affected.
Mass killings at a college campus attacks our sense of
safety. Parents
worry about sending their kids off. College students
worry that they
might be next. Memorial services are for those who go
to the services....we are the ones who need it.

NBC made money by showing the killer's multimedia
release from the grave. it sorta of made up for
losing "imus in the morning"... is that any different
from how the media marketed the war in iraq for bush?
whenever there is carnage to show on television,
ratings soar. the same with tabloid journalism. i
blame the audience that craves this kind of coverage
as much as the corporate media.
the difference with what happened at VT is that people
feel more personally involved than when they finally
got to see a few flag draped coffins returning from
iraq. those students did not volunteer to be put in
harm's way...
bush is so ego involved he just keeps repeating the
same mistake over and over again until he succeeds or
is out of office. what is going on in iraq is
completely insane...
