At the 1997 Worldcon, there was a panel, "Living With a Writer" that his
wife was on. One of my favorite things from that panel was a story of
hers: They'd raised 4 boys, and when there were only 1 or 2 of them still
at home, not quite yet grown, they had someone over for dinner who
exclaimed over how tidy the living room was. Algis took a couple of his
stacks of papers (he was one of those people who made stacks of papers and
could always find everything if no one disturbed the stacks) and scattered
them across the floor, and asked if that was better. The guest agreed it
was, and the evening continued.
(At that panel, there was a fair bit of discussion of stacks of paper, and
how you never, ever move someone else's stack, and if someone comes to
help "clean", you have to keep an eye on them to make sure they don't
disturb a very important stack, or someone will be set back a couple of
months at *least*.)
