-------- Original Message -------- Dear students,
Apologies for the blanket email, but I wanted to reach as many students as possible as quickly as possible. This is aimed primarily at students on computing degrees, though anyone is welcome to attend! If you have an interest in Perl (or even if you don't at the moment) you may be interested in a talk by the 'Bristol and Bath Perl mongers' who are a group of professional Perl programmers and developers working in the local area. Their talk will be on the uses of Perl in the computing industry (what it is or can be used for). I expect that they will be able to tell us something about the use of Perl in online organisations such as IMDB.com (which has a base in Bristol - one of their Perl programmers should be at the talk). As in the past we have had a number of first-year students get summer jobs doing Perl and some Perl-based placements as well, you might find the talk (and also meeting some of the group) of potential career interest. The talk will be at: 18:30-19:30 Tuesday 8 December - room to be announced. The late timing is to allow them to get here from their jobs! PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP if you intend to attend the talk as I need to organise a suitable size room. Just reply to this email saying you'll be there.
