I am not idealising hippies, and I'm sure that this is true to some extent. However, somebody developed the format of tournaments, ran them, set up the BUF, grew the sport, and developed the sports culture. The cultural aspect of ultimate has lots going for it. Yes, it must continue to evolve and to progress must face up to its faults, but we have to identify what WE treasure and maintain that through its growth.
