Hello all,
I'm a student from the US who spent a week in the UK earlier this
month. I played a lot of disc with a variety of people during my
stay (even tried the bizarre indoor game at Birmingham). Anyway, while
talking to some folks they said that the GB co-ed teams might be looking
for some players for worlds due to funds limitations. I was probably
going to go and was hoping to contribute to a team while there. I know
this is super early, but I wanted to get my name out there for people to
think about.
I guess I should put down some qualifications. I'm 23, 5'8" tall, and 155
lbs. I've been playing disc competitively for 10 years. The first 4
years were playing mostly as a deep strike for my high school team
(current #1 HS team in the nation Paideia High School). After that I
spent 5 years working mostly as a handler and man-to-man defender in
college at Georgia Tech. Last year I was part of a quickly formed co-ed
team from Atlanta Georgia named Gridlock. 3 months after being formed we
qualified for US nationals. Unfortunately we didn't qualify for worlds,
but for only being three months old and being the first nationals for many
of our players we thought our 13th place finishing was decent. Also over
the past year I have been coaching the team from my old college. It has
forced me to think about the game in new ways and come up with different
ways to motivate different players. Over the years I have run a variety
of offenses (stack, sideline stack, box[Dog's offense], H-stack, Panther
and a German style offense) and defenses (man [my favorite], zone,
trapping zone, clam, wall, 2-3-2). I pick up stuff reasonably quick and
can learn a new offense while on the field.
Well, that's about it. Sorry for the long email. I hope I'm not
offending anyone by being some stupid American who is looking for pick up.
But like I said I talked to a few people while in the UK and they told me
to give it shot because people might need players. It has been a dream of
mine to play at worlds for the past 8 years. Most of my friends got to
play in the juniors division back when worlds was in Scotland, but I
didn't have the cash. So here's my chance to make it up. Thanks for your
time.

Oh, I forgot. I can guarantee at least 4 layout Ds over the course of the
tournament.
