Bd,

I'm totally in agreement with Alex and would go further to suggest that
"Geo" has had it's day (that's assuming that the "restrictions" place on
non-geo clubs ever actually held much sway anyway)... as Alex says if
players are prepared to travel far enough to train with a club often enough
to meet their selection criteria then so be it... and if the club is big
enough to support two (or even 3) teams then why should we restrict the
rotation between teams to only those clubs who can claim "geo-status"?

Clubs are starting to realise the benefits of more frequent practice
sessions, larger squads (and, judging by the number of WLs springing up, of
playing outdoors competitively all year round) and I don't see us going
back to the "dark days of telephone teams" dominating the upper echelons of
the Tour which led to the introduction of the Geo rule.

If nothing else the success of the British teams in Hawaii as compared to
teams from the continent proves that the top clubs are getting it right
themselves and, in my opinion, this is as result of an effort to compete
domestically and internationally and NOT to comply with UKU rules and
regulations

I've seen a couple of postings about rulings on whether a team is geo or
not, giving London teams less of an area from which to recruit, etc.
Imposing fixed 'you must live x miles from your team' rules onto teams in
Britain seems over-controlling and restrictive in a similar way to the
current Tour Roster situation.
75% of Clapham players live in south London (SW* postcodes). 2 live in
Cambridge, and 1 in Eastbourne. 100% of our players train with us at least
once a week, and up to 3 times. If you don't train with us, you don't make
the team - that's our self-imposed definition of our status of being geo.
We're not interested in any 80-mile radius around London or whatever it is
right now.

It's the same with the top teams in North America. Jon Gewirtz lives in
Seattle yet flies to Vancouver for practices so he can make Furious George.
4 Condors players live in San Francisco but make the long drive to Santa
Barbara frequently enough for them to make the team. I don't think there
are geo restrictions on who can play for which team depending on where they
live in the USA.

It's up to the clubs to impose their own geo status by turning away players
who live too far away to train with them, surely that's the point here.
