Hi all,
I'd like to raise a query about seedings at tournaments for the UK's
frisbee minds to ponder and hopefully reply to.
It seems to me that in determining final placings within a tournament a
new method for the last matchups would be beneficial. For instance, in the top
half of a 16 team draw, on the second day of a weekend comp. 8th place play
1st, then 5th , then 7th. This doesn't allow them to play 6th position at any
point who they are far more likely to beat than 1st place. For every team to
improve it helps to play against better teams, but when limited games are
available surely for entertainments sake it's better to have closer teams
playing each other. Especially because teams have had the first day of the
tournament to try and steal seedings of teams ranked high above them.
This is just a brief proposal which I haven't really thought through but
how about having 4 pools of 4 with the rankings as usual on the first day.
Then on the second day another 4 pools with teams 1 to 4 in the top pool, 5 to
8 in the second pool etc. with a round robin between them. Has this method
ever been tried? I can see it would require careful seeding initially to have
an even spread of teams in each pool on the first day, but could potentially
make for more even and exciting competition on the sunday, despite being
difficult to determine which game is actually the final.
      Your thoughts please
           Jez
