I think you're right Wayne - but I think that maybe nothing should be on UKU
diary until concrete. At least that way people will ask questions regarding
the dates of tournaments, instead of organising their holidays etc around
those dates that then change without much prior notice (In particular I
missed out on Tour 1 because I booked a holiday, then the dates were
changed... others must be in the same situation, and it sucks because I had
planned specifically to be back for Tour 1).
Admittedly there are circumstances where nothing can be done, but I've lost
count of the number of times I've heard of venues cancelling, or being
double booked - I don't think for one second that all of these are genuine,
it happens far too often (maybe an experienced TD would like to slap me down
on that one?).
It just seems from the outside that the organisers are chosen first, date
second. IMO the date should be set, then whomever can accommodate the
tournament on that date should get in, unlike what occurred with Tour 1 - if
the venue cancelled for that date, it should have gone to another venue
instead of changing the date to suit the organisers.
Is it really too much to ask that when the UKU set a date for a tournament,
that it runs on that date?
Not that I'm running any tournaments here - hell I'm let like a lamb to the
slaughter just like the other 90% of people. But, essentially, all of us
have paid subs and pay tournament fees for a service (from the TD, who in
turn pays the venue for the pitches). Isn't that why people tend to
complain after a poor tournaments? I mean poor in terms of pitches for
instance, not oppostition ;) Because you pay, and expect something in
return.
Basically, if the UKU board are going to place a 'window' in the diary for a
tournament, then they should make damn sure that the tournament takes place
during that weekend. Why else put in a window? If they're not going to do
that then they should instead say "We're going to have Nationals some time
in September once we have a venue". People wouldn't mind that so much.

I'd reckon that the UKU Diary is a guideline until you've seen definite
communication confirming what's happening & when.
Have you looked at the entry for Nationals? It said nothing of use, 'cos
there was nothing confirmed until now.
(Please can someone update the diary, now we know what's happening!)
I also remember an email (or 2?) from Chris Hughes saying something like:
"do not treat these dates as Gospel"
Again, there's been a lot of hard work gone into getting Nationals to happen
at all.
Attempting to move the date (again) would invalidate all that hard work!
For those of you that now have clashes... I guess you need to think about
your priorities. Sometimes you have to make difficult decisions, this will
be one of those times!

dudes,
I don't get all this damn moaning going on! Can't peeps start discussion with shit like "Why has nats been changed?" rather than "moan whinge cunterino monkey buggery whiney..."
It seems that some things have been moved around to let us play ultimate, which is cool. Suggestions and positive contributions about how this stuff could happen in the future are far better than whingering bollockmongering.
This sport means loads to the people who play it, but we ain't premier league, and using UKU part time "helpers" as fall guys is liking sucking your mommas dick.
Whitey
ps, anyone thought about splitting the tour north/south so I don't have to get up so early?
