All, Please ignore the previous message from Brummie. It is still a discussion document and nothing has yet been confirmed. I will inform people when decisions have been finalised.
The initial set of dates that will be available will be indicative suggestions for teams wishing to put in bids for events. Until this has been confirmed nothing is guaranteed. I've cc'ed: 1) the address I have for the Bristol Winter League; 2) the address I have for the MWL (Sion Scone from Purple Haze, in the hope she'll provide us with an email address for the appropriate MWL contact). 3) Simon Norris who organizes the Savage 7 tournie in London, who will get back to us with a date ASAP no doubt. 4) Carthorse for the Champions' League, so he has as much warning as possible of your plans - and can adapt his accordingly. I guess the best thing would be for all the Winter Leagues to agree as soon as possible on whether we want to play the 1st Sunday of every month or the 2nd Sunday. Given that GB players often stay away for the whole weekend seeing friends, or get injured - it would IMHO irrevocably spoil the WLs to share weekends with the GB training, so my advice would be that we go for 1st Sunday in every month. Either that a mismosh of dates, but the 1st Sunday of every month has a nice ring to it, and might start a precedent people can easily remember for years to come. Once we move to a more organized winter calendar we might as well think in terms of longevity and convenience - and 1st Sunday WL, 2nd Saturday GB would be very convenient. In terms of one last change, I doubt there'll be GB training after Finland, so Sept 11/12 should be a potential Nationals weekend. We wouldn't want to be as late as 18/19 Sept would we, unless we could avoid it? Cheers all, rt -----Original Message----- From: Chris Hughes [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 09 August 2003 23:39 To: Ukuboard Cc: Roger Thomson; Christian Nistri; Si Hill; Nolan Taylor; Stig Subject: 2004 Season All, I believe I've got this to all the key people who I can identify at this stage; UKU board inc. Stig Si Hill for GB Open Laura for GB Women Barry for GB Coed Wayne Davey for GB Masters Roger for London Winter League Christian for Northern Winter League I will try and identify some one responsible for both the South west and Midlands winter leagues. I have included a calendar with dates for appropriate events. You will not that there are a large number of available dates, although some have been identified as preferred. I am going to be inviting bids for events, and building the calendar from the bids rather than imposing specific dates - I believe that this will allow to chose the best quality bids rather than whoever can organise something on a specific date. GB Teams: I have identified the second weekend as the most suitable weekend for GB training. All teams would have to train on this weekend as for teams to train on different weekends will make any calendar unworkable (To change later may mean GB players missing major events). This provides the greatest number of weekends for training. The only complication to this is Easter (and Rimini), however I will ensure that either the weekend before or after is left open for training. I have assumed that during winter then the training will be one day only leaving the Sunday immediately after as possible winter league dates if necessary, but not preferable. Obviously if GB teams wish a weekend long practice then that needs to be identified sooner rather than later, and teams will have to play winter league without their GB players if necessary. Winter League: The first Sunday of every month. This provides five weekends to hold four winter league events, with the Winter League Finals on the first Sunday of March. Obviously the second Sunday of the month (immediately after GB training is available) depending on GB training. Indoors: This leaves the rest of the month free for indoor regionals and nationals, with the indoor season finished by the end of February Outdoors: Ideally the outdoor season will start the end of March as the clocks go back. The first tour event should take place before Easter, with the first coed immediately after Easter. Tour & Coed Tour: The coed tour needs to decide whether it can sustain a fourth event after this years performance, if not there is probably space for a fifth tour event. I would rather see a fourth coed event. BritOpen: I have identified four weekends for BritOpen. Nolan, the sooner you can get me a date for this would be better. If you can do this before this calendar goes public as part of the bidding process (on Wednesday) then you get to bagsy your weekend first. Worlds: I have removed both the weekend before and after to provide some relief for GB teams - obviously these weekends are open to other events. Champions League: To be honest I haven't concerned myself with champions league events. That is for those organisers to deal with. I feel that the most helpful thing we can do is identify as early as possible our schedule and let those organisers work around us. Students: I have placed student nationals on the same weekend as Brugges. Rich identified this was a good weekend and it removes another potential clash. Beyond this, as you can see there is limited space for students. Rich and I agreed that there may well be clashes. Students are now organising so many events (and this is good) that we do not have enough weekends to ensure students can attend open and student events. However likely clashes are going to occur during winter and spring (up to Easter) and after that we should be clear. Obviously a good weekend to hold student events is the same weekend as GB as whilst there are some students on the GB teams the potential conflict there is limited in comparison to other clashes. As you can see the schedule is pretty full - we have ten outdoor events (four tours, four coed tours britopen and the Easter GB training) to place in 12 weekends. Therefore if anyone has any problems I need to know very soon (Monday or Tuesday) and consider that any requests to change will involve shuffling the whole calendar (so think about how it will affect others). I shall take silence on this to be tacit agreement. Hopefully I won't hear from anyone, but please say so if you spot any errors / problems Chris The spreadsheet - note the comments (little red triangles) << UKUCalendar.xls >> _________________________________________________________________ Tired of 56k?
