Folks, 8 teams hoping to go to Nationals this weekend have contacted me asking to pick up unrostered players in order to make up numbers. Most teams are putting this down to injuries. I started off by trying to adjudicate on a case by case basis, but at this point it seems sensible to just tell every team that they must bring rostered players where possible (that means players rostered with their team) but if rostered players are absolutely unavailable, each team is allowed to make up numbers with unrostered players to the point where they have a minimum of 6 men and 5 women. Please be spirited in your approach.
Please try not to turn up to Nationals without this minimum number, it is going to be hot at the weekend and we haven't had too many injuries on the mixed tour so far this season, so let's not break the trend at nationals. Mixed Nationals may have to be rethought so as not to end up in this situation next yr. Perhaps something along the lines of giving properly rostered teams a 5 point lead at the beginning of every game to encourage player commitment. We could also reduce the mixed calendar to 3 tour events + nationals if players are finding they are playing too many weekends in a row. Or we could scrap rostering altogether until the mixed division is sufficiently established. I'm willing to consider all sensible suggestions. A quick look at the mixed website shows that the majority of teams have 20+ players on their roster so those teams struggling for players this weekend have either had an unusual number of injuries or teams need to find more committed players for the benefit of the mixed division. See you all at the weekend, M x ********************************************************************* This footnote confirms that this e-mail message has been scanned for the presence of known computer viruses by the MessageLabs Virus Control Centre.
