Oh you should never have missed it Tom!

>one of the greatest triumphs in the History of UK Ultimate
One of? It stands head and shoulders above anything that this community
or any team from this community has ever achieved. It was AMAZING!

3 personal highlight were:
1) The women 13-7 down in the semi vs Sweden. Game to 15. ALL the other
squads round the sideline cheering 'Defence<clap><clap><clap>
Defence<clap><clap><clap> Defence<clap><clap><clap>' and 'MORE!' along
with most of the Danes and a few other countres. The women win 15-14
after tightening their line rotation and the other 80 GB squad members
invade the pitch as we realize we have 5 teams in the final. 100 red and
white shirts whooping and cheering and hugging each other. Everyone who
was there will probably remember this for ever.

2) Si Hill's stunning captaincy in the Open semifinal against the Finns.
It was an incredibly tight game but at 8-8 GB had been looking like they
were going to get ahead of the Finns for several points, but had been
struggling to convert. Wigsy gets a huge D which should have won GB the
half - but the Finns made an extremely dubious call and took half. Later
in the game it looked like one of their players was in but Wigsy was
disputing it very strongly and wanted to call him out. The situation was
getting very heated until Si Hill intervened by asking the sideline and
crowd's opinion, then talking Wigsy into conceding the point. Compare
that to the lack of spine ALL the Finns showed when they blatantly knew
their 1st half call was bad (but hung their heads and did nothing to
intervene against their teammate's bad call). We won the game anyway in
sudden death and that incident should stand as a shining example to
those who think that the Brits play with any kind of bad spirit. We play
harder than them and fairer - suck it up!

3) Getting the first ever European or World Gold medal for GB with the
Masters team. The team was a fantastic mix of the players who've built
the UK Frisbee world we live and play in - and as such we were never
going to do anything but have a blast and win. Which we did comfortably
17-4 in the final. Our last point was 'oldest seven', including Nolan
(the oldest player at the tournament at 4<ahem> something), Nick Cash
(who has an Open Euro Silver medal from 1981 and a Masters Euro Silver
medal from 1991!!!), Si Moore (GB captain through the 90s), Beege from
Leeds (who I first played a hat tournie with in 1991), Batchelor (need
any more be said?), Si Church from Red and El Capitano Wayne Davey. Then
we got very very drunk (yes, even with our reputations) and by the end
of it even that dude from the Fast Show would have seemed lucid and
coherent in comparison!

Special mention to Thumper, aka Paul Thornton of BAF, who had never ever
won a tournament since starting playing in 1988. Laugh it up Thumper,
you have now!

Anyway, more will no doubt follow - but it really was a remarkable
achievement that those at home should feel a part of as well. The main
reason GB did so well has to be the strength of our domestic
competition, and that is down to the involvement of the TDs at home and
the teams the GB players play on and against..... But you're not having
any of my bling!

See you @ Nationals :-)

Roger
