Hello all, Last weekend the 2003/2004 University Indoor Finals took place at the Concord Sports Centre, Sheffield. Teams fom all over the country decended on Sheffield to compete at the highest level of Student Indoor Ultimate.
The format of the tournament was 2 pool of 8 and then quarters, semis and then the final games, the same schedule used at NTN (Supplied by Rich Hims). After the first day, the teams that stood out were Ro Sham Bo, Positive Mojo, Bears, Jedi and Sublime. The sunday morning saw the completion of the pool games and Ro Sham Bo and Positive Mojo winning their respective pools. The tournament then went into the quarters, which saw no changes in the seedings. But the semis saw several changes of seedings. York and Skunks kept strong through the quarters and semis in the bottom 8 to set up a good Plate Final. Also Ro Sham Bo and Positive Mojo kept up their form to set up an all Scottish Final. The plate final saw York take on Skunks. Both teams started strong, trading points, but in the end Skunks had that little extra in reserve which allowed them to up there games enough to complete an 8-5 victory over York. In the final both teams were evenly match, even though Positve Mojo had lost one of their most experienced players. Possession was the name of the game in the final, as points would go on for up to 5 minutes with only 1 or 2 turnovers. Throughout the Finals, both sides were at the top of their game, with impressive layouts on Offence and Deffence. The Spirit throughout the game was of the highest order, with no arguments. At the buzzer the score was 6-5 to Positive Mojo, but then we had the 2 point cap to play. After another minute or so, Positive Mojo were 7-5 up. The next point then went on for several minutes with layout D's and some excellent handling. But in the end, Positive Mojo won out and scored to win the match and the title of the University Indoor Champions. The final psoitions at the end of the week are as follows:- 1.
