Hello there!
Are you interested in teaching Ultimate to
beginners at the Radio 1 On The Road event, 17/18
July, in Norwich?
Now, this does clash with Mixed Tour 4 at
Wetherby. However, if we can get a group of 5-10
players to volunteer their time for this event, it
would be a great PR opportunity for our sport.
Please e-mail me directly if this might interest
you, and we can work out the specific details with the
Radio 1 rep. I need all e-mails by Friday afternoon.
Thanks! :)
Do read the e-mail below for more details ...
Sounds like it should be a SWEET event!!
love,

Hello!
I work at Radio 1 as the Executive Producer of an
event called Radio 1 On The Road (R1OTR).
On Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th July we'll be taking
R1OTR to the University of East Anglia Sportspark in
Norwich for a weekend of activities, sport, music and
live broadcasts - and we're looking for coaches, clubs
& groups to get involved.
R1OTR focuses on the educational / inspirational side
of what Radio 1 can offer young people through
life-skills, music etc. and now, for the first time
sport. One of the specific aims of our Norwich
event is to encourage people to get active, though
not necessarily within the constraints of traditional
sporting activities. So, as well as things like
5-a-side and fitness assessments, we're also going to
include climbing, skateboard / inline skating etc.
And we'd also like to include Ultimate Frisbee.
Apparently there's a team at UEA - but because of term
dates, it looks unlikely that they'll be able to help
us with the event - which is why I wanted to get in
touch with you.
In keeping with the format of R1OTR events, we'll be
actively encouraging a broad range of young people to
attend - especially those from the 15-24 age group
(though no age groups will be excluded) and also those
from hard to reach / disadvantaged backgrounds. Entry
will be free and non-ticketed and we're currently
lining up various Radio 1 DJs and celebrities to take
part.
R1OTR in Norwich will be a priority for Radio 1 -
there will be a week-long on-air campaign based around
fitness / taking part in sporting activities in the
week leading up to it; and were very much looking
forward to working with a wide variety of local
organisations to help make it an unforgettable event.
I hope you can help - and I look forward to hearing
from you soon. Our print deadline is Wednesday 16th
June, so we need to have our activities confirmed by
then.
Kind regards,
Caroline
