Hi All, A write-up of the tournament will be published shortly, but unfortunately, I have a rather less pleasant email to send first.
It would appear that there were a significant number of players who stayed at the campsite without paying. The system at the campsite (as I am very sure anyone who looked at the website will know) was that campers would pay per tent per night and per person. However "expensive" this may have been or appeared (when I say this I mean in comparison to campsites at other Tours), it is completely unacceptable to take advantage of the site, especially when I spent time negotiating a discount for the benefit of every player who wanted to stay there. I did not enjoy talking to the campsite manager this morning - I had expected to learn that everything ran smoothly. Free camping is/was not available at Peffermill Playing Fields because the quality of the site is so high that the groundsmen won't compromise the fields. Obviously, if you did book and pay in full I appreciate your honesty. For those who didn't pay I would have expected more of you given the spirit of our game and the discount that was available. Non-payment is tantamount to theft and is disrespectful to the business and to the tournament organisers. I expect there won't be a discount available next time (partly because I'll be too embarrassed to ask), so I apologise to those of you honest and spirited enough to pay.
