Yes ... it was a condition of being able to use council land that we
had to have it.

Quick plug: Now that we have it, practices are held in Priory Park,
Reigate, on Wednesdays at 6PM. Further details from:

Royal and Sun Alliance, bought via Perkins Slade (link below)

168 UKP per year for 5 million pounds worth of cover, which is what
the council wanted. Prices go up if:

a) Your team is not affiliatated to the sport's governing body. In our
case, 'affiliation' means registering your team with the UKUA, so that
should be easy.

b) You have more that 50 members. (226 UKP for less than 100 members, etc ..)

In order to qualify as a club, you'll need to write a
constitution. Perkins Slade can send you a template if you need one,
or I can send you the one I used.

The whole process takes about a week, as they need original documents,
rather than faxes or emails.

I had a quick look at the event-insurance web site, but they seemed
(a) more expensive, and (b) to limit the number of events that could
be held in a year. Perkins Slade were the only company I found that
seemed to deal specifically with liability insurance for sports
clubs. That doesn't mean there aren't any other companies that do this
... but I couldn't find any.

I have done all this rather recently, so feel free to ask if anyone
needs any further assistance.

Cheers,

Nick
