Day 6 of WUGC and the day of reckoning for the majority of the GB squads. 5 of the 6 squads had chances to make the semis but only the Masters made it and will play USA tomorrow for the chance to play in the majestic Vertias stadium the same evening.
And it had all started so well. The open squad got off to a awesome start against the USA winning the first half 9-7. But as is so often the case the Septics came back strongly and won the second half 9-2. Unfortuantely, the second half peformance was mirrored in the first half of the quarter final game agaisnt the Swedes. GB went 7-2 down but fought back to enter the cap 12-11 down. Had it not been for a contentious travel call on a scoring pass in the next point things could have been very different, but it wasn't to be and the yellow ones prevailed 14-11. Things had also started well for the Women, going 5-0 up on Japan. Japan fought back, but GB hung on to win 14-13. Kudos for the win, but it still meant that they had to play Finland in the quarters. They were always behind, maybe having felt the effects of the game earlier that morning. The mixed team had a very poor day, losing both to the Kiwis in the quarter final and then to Australia, in sudden death, later in the day. The juniors were also unable to overcome Sweden and therefore missed out on a semi-final agains the Americans. Not a good day really, and it now seems unlikey that GB will secure a World games Sport in Germany next year. Partys start tomorrow!!!!!!
