Fire recover from the pain of losing to OW!
Ltd Short-circuit Mayhem

The first ever Mixed Winter League was set to go to the wire with Electric
Mayhem and LtdRelease1 entering the final event tied on 710 points. Although
the two teams were seeded for a showdown in the final Ltd's second team
upset the apple cart by defeating Mayhem 7-6 at the semi-final stage. With
Release1 overcoming Discuits in the other semi, the trophy was heading to
the South coast. Ltd1 took bragging rights over their teammates with an 9-5
victory, but the club will be more than pleased with their positions of 1st
and 5th in the overall rankings.

In the eyes of many the Open title was in the bag for Fire, who started the
final Matchday 120 points ahead of their nearest challengers Clapham.
However, a first round defeat to OW! opened the door for an unlikely upset.
If Fire succumbed to Clapham's second team in their next match they would
open the way for their rivals to take the title. A 7-5 victory was enough to
clinch the title and the day ended with another surprise as EMO became only
the second ever non-Clapham-based team (after Sharks) to win a LWL matchday,
taking down Fire2 in the final.

That victory was enough to propel the midlanders to 3rd in the overall
rankings, Discuits finished just above OW! and UCL, Fever, Brighton and ABH
all finished close together in the 6-9 slots. The League's only junior team
6ffu impressed throughout the winter, and the youngsters finished a
well-earned 16th out of the 26 teams that entered the Open Divisions.

So Mayhem had to settle for 2nd in the Mixed, with the Thundering Herd 3rd
despite a disappointing final matchday. Discuits matched their open team by
finishing 4th, just ahead of Ltd2. A mention must also go to the Flaming
Galahs, many of whom only began playing in the London Summer League in 2005,
who took 6th place.

In total, 39 teams competed in the four events of the 2005-06 London Winter
League. Many thanks to all the teams that entered, we hope you've enjoyed
what has been a great winter of ultimate in the capital. Apologies to any
teams that missed out at any stage due to over-subscription, with the League
getting ever more popular there just wasn't room for everyone. We'll try to
secure more pitch space for the 2006-07 League.

Finally, Saturday 12 March sees the National Winter League Finals on Clapham
and Wandsworth Commons. Teams who have qualified for the Finals (including
those from the North, North West and Midlands Leagues) will be notified
shortly. Don't forget that Iceni are hosting a party on the Saturday night,
I'm sure they'll be publicising it shortlyŠ
