One Gulp at a Time
------------------

As a service to the British teams going to World Clubs this year, the UKUA
has engaged the services of Jeff Jackson to prepare a three-part 'Guide to
Ultimate - Long-term Preparation' (or 'Gulp' as it shall henceforth be
known, in a subliminal bid to remind players about adequate fluid intake).

The three part guide will aim to cover all aspects of personal and team
preparation, particularly focusing on the specific demands of a week-long
top level tournament, and will be distributed in early May, August and
October.

Jeff is well qualified to advise on Ultimate preparation: he has two decades
of playing experience, and is a full-time freelance personal trainer. He is
also a coach educator for the recently established UKUA coaching award
scheme and has written several articles on training and tactics for
Ultimatum. Since 1989 Jeff has played at the majority of the annual World
and European tournaments for both club and national teams, and in three
different divisions (Juniors, Mixed, and Open, but never Masters - yet!).

Each Gulp resource pack will consist of a PowerPoint presentation outlining
(and illustrating) the main points, and an accompanying Word document
expanding on the most important areas. Pointers to further reading and
online resources will also be provided. They will be sent free of charge to
an email contact from each club, to be distributed within teams as needed.

Gulp 1 will be available from next week, and will feature information about:
* individual fitness and skill development,
* prehabilitation and injury prevention,
* team dynamics and psychology,
* energy levels and recovery strategies.
Later Gulps will cover such things as tournament logistics, hydration and
nutrition, sleep, goal setting, and team management.

The UKUA is committed to helping every team representing Britain in Perth to
be as well-prepared as possible, building on the successes of recent years,
and raising the bar for the future.

If you wish to be a contact point for your club, please send an email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], stating which team you represent.
