Don't panic Wayne. It is still technically possible to get to the venue.
Just do this instead:

M6 to J7
A34 south towards the City Centre,
After about 2.5/3 miles, turn left on to the A453 which should be
signposted for UCE
Turn on to the A453 and drive past the Dog Track, keep going under the
motorway (ignore signs for UCE now, or you will end up on their campus),
staying on the A453, You will see the venue on the right off Moor Lane.
The address is: the Pavilion, Moor Lane, Birmingham, B6 7AA.

I know you like to express concern about the state of Birmingham before
a tour each year...

03 July 2006: There will be works affecting the M42 and M6 in the West
Midlands starting tonight.


Roadworks will affect the M42 and M6 in the West Midlands from tonight.

At the M42 Junction 9 (Curdworth) to Junction 8 (M6 Link), the M42
southbound carriageway will be closed overnight from 22:00 BST on Monday
July 3rd to 06:00 BST on Tuesday July 4th for communications works. 

At the M6 Junction 5 (Castle Bromwich) to Junction 6 (Spaghetti
Junction), the following traffic management measures will be in place as
part of major roadworks.

Overnight on Monday July 3rd, the M6 northbound carriageway between
Junctions 5 and 6 will be closed, along with the slip roads from the M6
northbound to the A38 (M) and the M6 northbound to Salford Circus.

The slip road from Salford Circus to the M6 northbound, the M6
southbound carriageway between Junctions 5 and 6 and the slip roads from
the A38 (M) to the M6 southbound and Salford Circus to M6 southbound
will also be closed.

Diversion routes will be in place for these closures.

Also from July 3rd, northbound traffic will be running on the hard
shoulder and lane one, with southbound traffic running in contraflow on
the northbound carriageway.

Southbound traffic will be running on lanes two and three of the
northbound carriageway, with the slip road from the M6 northbound to the
A38(M) and the slip road from the A38 (M) to the M6 southbound being
closed.

At the M6 Junction 8 (Ray Hall M6/M5 Interchange), the following traffic
management measures will be in place from July 3rd.

Southbound traffic will run on the hard shoulder and lane one, with
northbound traffic running in contraflow on the southbound carriageway
of the M6. 

The northbound traffic in the contraflow will be segregated, with the
southbound entry slip at the M6 Junction 9 being closed and the slip
road from the M6 southbound to the M5 being reduced to one lane.
