Dear Northern ultimate community (everyone else can stop reading now...)
As Lucy quite rightly pointed out, northern winter league was a bit of a shambles last year; and the only ladder league I was aware of was cancelled at the last minuite. Needless to say this sort of organisation off the pitch does not represent the quality of ultimate we are used to seeing on the pitch. We can only try to redeem ourselves this year by doing a much better job of it. I think it would be unfair to host all NWL's in Leeds as it means the same people (pies especially) have to do lots of travelling to get there; or simply not turn up. It does however mean that they would go ahead. I think the best method would be to host one NWL in Northumberland (Newcastle, Durham), one in Lancashire (Manchester, Liverpool, Lancaster), and two in Yorkshire (Sheffield, Leeds, York, Hull, Bradford). ...this way no-one has to consistantly make a long journey and it spreads the location according to the team dispersal. Of course we don't have months to discuss this so I would like to suggest that anyone interested in hosting a NWL make it known in the next month (by mid October) via one of the e-groups. we don't currently have a co-ordinator for this so we will just have to be grown up about it, we have more than enough e-groups to facilitate good communication but we don't have many voices speaking up. For anyone that's still unsure: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], It follows in my mind that ladder league should follow a similar pattern; if each 'area' were to hold its own ladder league it is highly likely that other teams from that area (and one or two from ajacent ones) would make an effort to attend; or plan b we could just host all of those in Leeds too.
