Hi

The monthly Member Update (Sept 2006) has now been sent to most people this
month, and now also uploaded to website:

http://www.ukultimate.com/member_update/sept_2006.aspx#view

However, there were some problems this month, and because in general it
seems that quite a few ISPs reject it on the assumption that it is spam I
thought it would be useful to also send it to Britdisc in an attempt to get
the information to more people. Apologies to those receiving it more than
once.

*** Please don't try to contact me if you haven't received it - I (sort of)
already know and we are working on a solution. ***

Si

1. UKUA DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION SMALL GRANTS SCHEME

The UKUA board has created a grant scheme to support and encourage new and
innovative projects or events to grow and develop Ultimate in the UK.

A full description of the scheme with details of how and what you can apply
for can be found on the UKUA website here:
http://www.ukultimate.com/About/Documents.aspx

The scheme will be administered by a committee of 3 people, Barry O'Kane,
Dominic Hall and one other - which could be you. If you would like to be
involved in overseeing how funds are distributed and allocated, plus helping
applicants successfully complete their project, then please send an e-mail
with a brief outline of why you should be selected to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

*******************************************
2. UKUA CONFERENCE

Over the past few years the UKUA conference has been a valuable tool for the
board and its members to come together and discuss the future direction of
the sport in this country.

Due to the timing of WUCC06 the conference has been scheduled to take place
some time in January. Watch this space for further news if you would like to
be involved in this invaluable event.

3. 2007 SEASON FORMAT

Due to the amount of interest and strength of feeling this subject
generated, the UKUA board spent many hours debating the format for the 2007
season at the last board meeting. The full details of what transpired can be
found in the minutes which are on the website here:

 <http://www.ukultimate.com/board_meetings/contents.aspx#Board%20Meetings>
http://www.ukultimate.com/board_meetings/contents.aspx#Board%20Meetings

On the split season:
1. Thanks to everyone that got involved: both in terms of gathering
information and responding to the survey, etc.
2. The very quick summary is that the decision was to maintain the Split
season in 2007 (Mixed then Open/Women as in 2006) - but that there would be
an Open (and possibly Womens, TBD) Tour Seeding/Qualifier tournament
(excluding some top teams) very early in the outdoor season to address some
of the concerns that had been raised about the split.
3. PLEASE CHECK THE MINUTES FOR A MORE COMPLETE SUMMARY OF THE CONVERSATION
AND MAIN POINTS OF CONCERN.

*******************************************
4. 2007 PROVISIONAL CALENDAR

As the format of the 2007 season has now been decided we now need some
tournaments. The bid procedure, and the provisional calendar, can be found
on the website here:

http://www.ukultimate.com/2007/2007events.aspx

On another note - there have be postings to Britdisc recently commenting on
the lack of tournaments and info that is posted to the calendar on the UKUA
website. Please can all TDs ensure that your event is included on the UKUA
website calendar with as much information as possible to aid all those
players wishing to attend.

*******************************************
5. INDOORS

Qualifiers will take place in Weston and Reading, both on 3/4 Feb. A
northern qualifier is being finalised, again on 3/4 Feb; and will be in
Sheffield, Bradford or Hull.

Nationals is planned for 3/4 March, but the venue is not settled as yet.

6. GB Captains

We are aiming to finalise the captaincy of the GB teams across all divisions
by the middle-end of November. We intend to follow the process outlined
below:

- People that are interested should indicate their interest before Mon 9th
October and will be required to provide a full application by end Oct.
Please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

- We will provide some questions/framework that we expect prospective
captains to complete - even if they are the only applicant.

- Applicants in the same division will be encouraged to work with each other
and key players in that division to arrive at a single application. If this
is not possible, or fails to reach a resolution, then (assuming that
competing applications are subsequently received) a Board subcommittee will
appoint an appropriate team of three people to make the decision (e.g. top
players that are not intending to be involved). Applicants will have the
right to "object" to the makeup of the committee; final decision will be
with the Board.

- Ideally applications should be for 2007 and 2008.
