I’m sure I’m not the only one keeping an eye on ours teams down under,
but here’s a quick summary for those who haven’t had time. I hope this
helps, sorry for any inaccuracies/inadequacies…

LeedsLeedsLeeds are keeping the UK torch alive, being the only UK team
left in the top pools (L-P – the Sublime you see in there is an Aussie
team, not our south-coasters) – and their only loss in that pool is to
one of the top teams out there, Team Fisher Price. Come on the Leeds!

Bristol, Sheffield and Ltd Release are in the next group of pools and
all faring well – the best any of them can finish is 17th, but out of 41
teams of this quality that would represent a good result.

THE THUNDERING HERD AND DISCUITS HAVE BOTH WON THEIR FIRST GAME AT
WORLDS – WOOT!!! The Herd beat the Honey Badgers to claim another first
for London’s only mixed team out there, while Discuits (in the same pool
as Herd now) beat Eureka Goldigaz. Another victory and both teams should
avoid the wooden spoon pool, and it sets up a classic UK derby for top
spot in that pool if all goes very well. I know where my loyalties lie -
MOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Either team could claim 29th
spot with no more losses.

Clapham and Fire are both through to the top pools despite first-round
losses to Mephisto and Buzz Bullets respectively, but neither team has
yet racked up a victory in these extremely tough pools. Clapham have
lost 1 game so far in this pool (Buzz Bullets – man those Japanese can
be tough!), and Fire 2 games (Thong and Chilly). I suspect either team
would be happy with ANY ¼ final berth given that Clapham still have 2 of
the top US teams to play (DoubleWide and Sub Zero), and a must-win
against another Japanese team (Nomadic Tribe); while Fire need at least
one victory and a good goal difference from their 2 remaining games
against Mephisto (the Canadians who beat Clapham) or Fakulti (a
relatively new Aussie team who beat Chilly, the team which has already
beaten Fire in this pool). COME ON CLAPHAM…………..and fire.

The only UK team still to claim a victory, EMO are struggled in the
first pools but have plenty of chance to find their feet in the lower
pools. Good luck EMO, never give up!

It can’t all be bad either – the French are out of the top pools so at
least Clapham and Fire should be spared Ultimate Vibration’s creative
way of seeing calls! :-)

The website does not appear have been updated properly so I’m not 100%
sure, but Iceni are through the opening pools into the top bracket –
Bliss’s fate is not entirely clear as they appear to be in a 3-way tie,
only 2 teams from which will go into the upper pools. My reading of the
situation doesn’t look good – I think they’re out of the top 12 on goal
difference :-( I hope I’m wrong.
