I think that the 3m rule is a silly idea implemented in the UPA rules. See below from UPA website (I'm a little bored at work!): 1. Picks: 1. No offensive player may move in such a manner to cause a defensive player guarding a receiver to be obstructed by another player. Obstruction may be the result of contact with, or the need to avoid, the offending player. To do so while the obstructed defensive player is within three meters of the receiver is a "pick". 2. In the event of a pick: 1. the obstructed player must immediately call "Pick" loudly. 2. Play stops and is restarted with a check, unless the continuation rule [XVI.G] applies. 3. The obstructed player is allowed to recover the relative position lost because of the pick. Due to this there is often confusion playing N.American teams as they probably won't have read the WFDF rules. However, be alert to this, as this can be used to your advantage as it means you can also make up rules and just claim they are in the WFDF version…..:-)
It is important to stress that in both WFDF and UPA version you cannot mark up after a pick but just "recover the relative position lost because of the pick". So if you are toast, don't try and call pick to get out of it, that's a weak call…….call switch instead! wigsy __________________________________________________ BritDisc mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.ranulf.net/mailman/listinfo/britdisc Staying informed - http://www.ukultimate.com/informed.asp
