Someone on the ukdev list said "But if we don't learn from past mistakes we
tend to simply go around in circles. And we do go 'round in circles a lot."
which made me think of all the feedback that appears after Tour events. In
that spirit I went through last year's events and put together a list of
what people ranted about on BritDisc. I'm not saying I agree with the
following, or that they're necessarily important, or that they're easy to
fix, or that they're not obvious, I'm just saying that they're what people
said last year. In fact, there are a couple that I disagree with. I figure
it won't take most people more than a minute to skip through the list, and
maybe, just maybe it will make life a little better.

TDs
All night access to toilets for campers - on Friday night too
Water on all pitches, regularly refilled, and don't rely on players to
refill water containers - have dedicated staff.
Full size pitches - make sure that it is actually possible to fit in the
pitch, rather than there just being space on a map.
Supplya copy of the schedule to the caterers so that they know when people
are likely to want food (or alternatively explain how the schedule works -
would probably be easier)
TD shouldn't play or there should always be a nominated "official" in charge
of the event when they are playing
Plenty of ice packs or ice for first aid
Provide a shelter from the rain/sun near to the pitches
Provision of a "nutritional" food option (not just a burger van)
Food for veggies
Try to remove dog foul from pitches
Make sure grass is short

Players
Accurately record your scores
Don't drop out at the last minute - if you're going to drop out do it early
Go to a supermarket and bring your own food if you're worried about catering

UKUA Committee
No one-off international super-teams (e.g. from Switzerland)
Totally separate schedules for different tours (A, B, Womens) to prevent
misreading
Minimise back to back games
Clear rules on what happens in pools in the event of a tie
Schedules at least a week in advance of the tournament
Don't reschedule just because a team drops out.
No big gaps in the schedule (e.g. 5 hours between games)

If you've read this far, then thanks for your time. UKUA Committee and TDs
- a big thanks to you. I really appreciate the job you do, even if I don't
know half the difficulties you encounter. Personally I think that you should
be proud that the list above is so short.
