Hi I received this today - please see below. Ryan is trying to persuade you to play guts! No doubt Ryan would you to spread the word further... For anyone whose interested... The last time I played guts it was the end of a wedding reception and more or less pitch dark. Being a sensible bunch we decided we'd throw with our wrong hands. Nonetheless when a disc hit me square on the nose there was enough blood to ruin a nice suit. I'm not saying don't play - I'm just saying don't wear a nice suit at the same time. Si

My name is Ryan Scott. I am trying to interest more Guts Frisbee players/teams in competing in the 2008 WUGC at Vancouver. Please forward this correspondence to all interested parties. Here's the deal: Only a certain number of Ultimate players will make the Great Britain Ultimate Frisbee National team, right? But you can still participate in WUGC, represent Great Britain, and even support your Ultimate friends by giving Guts Frisbee a try! I guarantee it - you WILL like it! If you don't, you'd better check your pulse! It's EXTREME Frisbee, the original Frisbee tournament sport! We'll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of tournament Guts here in the US over the weekend of June 30 - July 1, 2007 in the granddaddy of all events, the International Frisbee Tournament! My team is the Boomtown Saints. We're the defending IFT champs! Great Britain MUST be represented in Guts at WUGC and not just in Ultimate! You can send up to 2 Guts teams; a match is contested between two 5-Man teams but teams often have six, seven, or even more players on their rosters, and those players rotate in and out to keep everyone fresh, and offer a different "look". Don't be left at home! Get up and try something new! Begin building a team now and be ready for 2008! I know you had one at the last WUGC made mostly of Ulti players and that you had to scramble for player, but just send a team of all Guts players. Guts Frisbee is NOT a walk in park. Basically, it's a game of throw and catch. Guts Frisbee requires superior "hand to eye" skill in catching, using just one hand, which may be the biggest obstacle Ultimate players will have to overcome! Oh, and speedy shots thrown with deadly accuracy. On defense, once the disc has been thrown, your teammates must make every effort to catch it. You can move; run, dive, or even kick the disc; do anything you possibly can to keep the disc from touching the ground. If it does, the throwing team gets a point. On offense, you get a point for a shot scored. When you throw a good shot and they can't catch it and the disc touches the ground, score a point for your team. Points can also be scored when "bad" shots are thrown: High, Wide, Short, or Vertical (when the disc is past vertical, or upside down at point of contact) shots are illegal. No point is awarded for a catch. Either a straight-up clean catch (initial contact catch), or a bobbling catch (using one body part at a time, you can "up" the disc repeatedly until you or a teammate can make the catch. That person gets to throw back. Rules are few and fairly simple. It's great fun. If nothing else and there's plenty more, you'll more finely develop your catching skills for Ultimate! 2008 WUGC is just around the corner. We would like to invite you to Vancouver, Canada for Guts competition at 2008 WUGC. Unless, of course, you're a weak-armed punk, afraid to try to catch 110 grams of plastic, hurled at speeds of 100+ kph from just 14 meters away! Got GUTS? We're not crazy, just Frisbee players. Great Britain had an Ultimate Frisbee team at the 2004 WUGC; now it's time to enter a Guts Frisbee team to represent Great Britain. Get a bunch of competitive guys together (they don't even have to Frisbee players, but it helps) and give Guts a try. Or contact the Ultimate guys and see if they want to try and win a World Championship in Guts Frisbee! By the way, Guts is also a Women's sport at WUGC. Any women going with you? Teach them to play Guts and maybe they'll win you a World Championship!
