Dear European Ultimate Players, As many of you are aware, a new annual Championship series was started last year with the intention of building European Ultimate up to a competitive world standard. In 2006 more than 50 open and women's teams from all over the continent competed for the right to represent their region in the Finals, which were held in Florence. After a three-day tournament Iceni from the UK and Skogshyddan from Sweden were crowned champions.
As the 2007 Outdoor Ultimate season dawns, the Championship series committee (CSC) is proud to announce the 2007 Series. There have been a few changes to the series; changes, we hope will make the series even better than last year. To start, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg have been added into the West region and teams from those three countries will now compete with teams from Ireland and the UK for the right to represent the West region in the finals. Player eligibility rules have been tightened up as well, different clubs will no longer be able to merge for the series although clubs with A and B teams will be allowed to have all their players play on a single team should they wish to do so. And finally, the EUCF tournament format has been changed to reward pool winners and to provide a more accurate final placement. The EUCS website has been updated (http://efdf.eucs.org) and all the current 2007 rules have been posted. Further, results from last year can also be found, either on the front page or in the case of a regional, on a region's page. We will shortly be adding a roster function to the site so all clubs will be able to input their team rosters for the series. Regional information as it becomes available will be updated on the site, so please check back on your region's pages for the latest information regarding the series. The Finals will take place this year in Basel, Switzerland for three days in October. Basel offers a multitude of sweet fields with lots of grass and excellent facilities. Even if your club doesn't qualify for the finals, it's worth the trip to Basel to watch top quality ultimate being played. Basel offers easy access with Easy Jet and other low-cost airlines flying to the city. Finally, the series is looking for people who are interested in helping to organize the series on a regional level work on regional committees (Regional Series Committees). If you would like to get involved in how ultimate is developed in your region, please contact the following people: * West region - Si Hill ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), Brona Ni Chobhthaigh ( [EMAIL PROTECTED] ) * South West region - Buddha Schneider ([EMAIL PROTECTED] ), Emilie Vaillant ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) * North East region - Markus Erkinheimo ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), Hanna Ounap ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) * Central East region - Rue Veitl ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), Delia Chiu ([EMAIL PROTECTED] ) Have a great 2007 Ultimate season hope to see everyone not only in Southampton in July, but in Basel in October!
