Hello BritDisc,
Just a quick question regarding B Tour, it's schedule and the seeding for it.
The question is:
Mixed Tour operates a Bracketing(sp?) System so that teams play competitive
games all weekend and relies on the fact that the seedings are fair and
accurate.
Last year the B Tour did not employ this and, with the start of Tour 0, is
there any plan to start using this system?
>From what I can make out the pluses are:
1. Each team plays 'competitive' games all weekend so there aren't any 1 vs 24
games or similar on the Saturday morning. In my experience, players and teams
learn more from close games than trouncings.
2. It rewards teams that attended Tour 0 due to the fact that the teams that
are seeded high due to their presence at Tour 0 would mean that achieving
inclusion into the A tour would be easier (at least theoretically).
3. It makes scheduling the 'no back-to-back' games easier (it actually may have
no impact on scheduling, come to think of it).
And the minuses are:
1. It punishes teams that did not attend Tour 0 due to the fact that the teams
are seeded lower due to their absence at Tour 0 would mean that achieving
inclusion into the A tour would be harder and would have to be earned over a
number of tournaments.
2. Lower ranked teams would not play against better opposition to 'see how it's
done' (they would be able to watch other games however...)
My opinion regarding the main minus of the format punishing teams that didn't
attend Tour 0 would be "good!"
If that is the only major negative then I think it should be pointed out tht
the Open season now starts in April (or whenever Tour 0 was).
Anyway, there may be dozens of reasons why this format is not used that I have
overlooked because I'm a mong and I look forward to hearing them. But, after my
first mixed tour season, I can honestly say that it worked amazingly well and
ensured tight, competitive games all weekend whereas I can remember giving and
receiving chumpings whilst playing in the B tour and not really enjoying either
of the experiences.
Anyway, I'd be grateful if someone could just respond with 'we do it this way
because...' or 'actually, why do we do it this way?'
Thirst for knowledge and all that...
Cheers
pugh
