I hate to be complaining when I know that many people will have put a huge amount of effort into EUC2007 but I have to say that the website is a disaster.

It may have been acceptable 10 years ago when the web was still a supplemental source of information to have a site of this quality, but surely, especially given the demographic of Ultimate players and the fact that it is now a primary source for journalists researching stories, the web site for an event such as this should be the number one priority for those responsible for marketing and reporting the event.

I am not going to comment on the speed of the site as I have no experience in specifying servers but would guess that it wass never going to be easy to estimate the popularity of such a site and scale the server and connection appropriately. However it is another matter to give some thought to the design and maintenance of the site itself.

Lowlights:

Its gone 10pm on the first day of finals and there are no results, not even a summary on the news page.

The 'interesting' menu. Tournament leads to a list of teams, Participants to a description of the venue.

The poor design. A set of unmemorable pastel colours to indicate the division of each game.

The inappropriate use of what I assume was an 'off the shelf' site framework. A shopping cart on the gallery page? What can I say. Who in there right mind would ever buy anything off a site built with this framework anyway.

The link to the site 'designers' is broken. No surprise there. If I was them I would be keeping a low profile too.

I'm saddened because I'm sure the EUC2007 is a great event, that the participants are having a great time and some excellent Ultimate is being played, but I wonder how many people have browsed to this website to see how our sport is progressing only to be presented with something that appears poorly thought out and badly organised. Does this really reflect the state of Ultimate in the UK? I don't think so but I wonder how many will?
