I was reading some emails regarding C tour and current tour format,
I'm not sure if these points have already been suggested but;
Having a 16 team A tour, 16 team B tour and everyone else entering the
C tour. Promotion working the same way through all 3 divisions.
Although 49 teams didnt enter all 3 tours, it was close to that. And 3
X 16 is 48.
The way I see the B tour is its almost like a split tournament anyway,
with the top teams playing in Peer pools, sometimes with longer games
and higher point caps and the lower teams playing in a seeded pool
system with more games, that are shorter with a smaller point cap. And
then below that is more peer pools for the lowest seeded teams.
Im not sure how it all works but Im guessing that any team in the A
tour could technically win that Tour?
But the lower seeded teams in the B tour cant win that Tour with the
current format? Im not sure thats true tell me if its not.
Having a C tour may also encourage less experience or capable
teams/clubs to enter a smaller (cheaper?) Tour event that will gain
them experience and encouragement to compete at a higher level and get
promoted to the B tour, if they choose that as a path they wanted to
peruse. that can't be bad for development. This could also be a bonus
for junior clubs, it would be less daunting for them to enter a C tour
than a B tour. As most juniors shy away from the large, expansive tour
events or dont have the capability to enter an expensive event such as
tour that is mostly likely hosted in the south of the UK. Remembering
more than half of juniors are mid to north of the UK and those in the
south tend not to enter, possibly for the above reasons.
This idea could be easier for a split system to run, making smaller
tournaments that are more manageable (and cheaper!!) for a TD to run,
and could sort the scheduling problems with back to back games and not
enough pitches.
Just an opinion I havent done much credible research in to the
subject, tell me what you think.
