So the 8th & 9th of December saw everyone travelling
down to Devon to take part in the 2nd Iron 5
Tournament. With a few of last years teams returning,
the format was set for a complete free for all with
everyone being in with a chance of winning and walking
away as Iron 5 2007 Champions. The quality of ultimate
ranged from teams with players who had played for a
few weeks to seasoned veterans of the UK Ultimate
scene. With 5 trophies up for grabs there was always
something to play for.
On the start of play it become clear that some teams
were here to play well, some to learn and some to have
one hell of a good time! The young upstarts of
Flapcrack showing that junior ultimate in the South
West is going from strength to strength with their
combination of calm and cocky play. Hawkeye putting in
a big push for a shot at the title using fast turn
overs and some handy A tour experience. With the
surprise winners of Copa Cabana 2006 Cowboys,
splitting their players into 3 teams and bragging that
they would be walking away with the title before it
had even started.
By the end of the second day the final had come down
to 'What Makes Andrew Lugsdin So Dangerous?' v's
'Evesham Ultimate', winners of Iron 5 2006. With a
close game being fought with discs flying in from all
angels. And in the end a few costly throw-aways saw
What Makes Andrew Lugsdin So Dangerous? Take the title
of Iron 5 2007.
I hope you guys enjoyed yourself as much as I did ,
and I didn't even get to play. We'd just like to say a
big thanks to everyone who help with score keeping,
putting teams up, schedule issues, party arrangements,
and a big thank you to the employees of the Mayflower
Centre for keeping the pitches playable throughout the
weekend.
