Taking 3 is normally sufficient: Astros, blades and studs. I have yet to meet anyone who takes more options, but have met many who take those 3.
Mind you if you play on a team with only 14 spaces for pure athletes, and no space for old knackers like myself to play just the occasional point of O in the spirit of an inclusive and open-armed sport - then I suppose you may have a requirement for more types of shoe.
