Apologies for the long gap since our last member update - its been a very busy time. Here are just a few reminders of some of the competition highlights: At home Chevron won the Tour for the first time, but Clapham held on very firmly to their Nationals title. In the Women division, Iceni showed they remain the top team by doing the double. At the World Championships, Canada and the US showed that they are still ahead of the rest of us - but Japan has also stepped ahead of Europe and Australia. GB failed to claim a medal, but qualified comfortably for the World Games 2009. At a very wintry European Clubs in Paris, Iceni and Leeds claimed silver and bronze respectively in the Women division, with Fire of London getting silver in Open. *********************************** 2. World Games 2009 As noted above, we have qualified for the World Games 2009 for the first time - a great achievement by Team GB. For information about how to apply to try out for the team, and/or apply to be Team Manager please check out the World Games [http://www.ukultimate.com//gb_ultimate/gb_world_games_2009] section of the website. *********************************** 3. Events Calendar - Tour dates 2009 Tour dates 2009 [http://www.ukultimate.com//story/calendar_2009_announcement] were finally released yesterday. The UKU Competitions Committee would like to apologise for the delay caused by changes to the European competition structure for 2009. UKU Elections 2009 There will be an election before the end of 2008 for Board positions to start in Jan 2009. If you are interested in becoming involved please: 1. Take a quick look at the “How the UKU works” area on the website: http://www.ukultimate.com/about [http://www.ukultimate.com//about] 2. Send an email/manifesto to admin[at]ukultimate[dot]com by 7th Dec 2008. Please note that we have extended the deadline that was previously advertised. Given the various changes that happened during 2008, we decided that we would hold elections for all board positions this year. All but one of the current Board members is intending to stand and hoping to continue with their role in 2009. We will – in future years – return to the approach of ensuring that some positions are held for more than one year to help ensure continuity from year to year. *********************************** 6. Indoor Tournaments The Indoor season is in full swing - with regional qualifiers having been held in Open and Women Uni divisions. This weekend (22/23 Nov) sees the Club Indoor regional tournaments being held in Wolverhampton, Sheffield and Luton. The Finals are due to be held on "Indoor Grass" at Coventry on 24/25 Jan. Uni Indoor National Finals will take place next week in Southampton on 29/30 Nov. Can anyone break Edinburgh's hold over the title? Good luck to all involved! *********************************** 7. Conference - Jan 10th 2009 Finally, the UKU Conference is back - and will take place on Sat 10th Jan, probably at the National Tennis centre in London. Apologies for the London venue, but the LTA offered us use of what was apparently "Office Building of the Year" and it seemed to good an opportunity to miss. The plan this year is for a mixture of presentations and discussion topics - look here [http://www.ukultimate.com//2008/01/10/uku_conference_2009] for more details. -- Unsubscribe from this newsletter: http://www.ukultimate.com/newsletter/confirm/remove/0e25eaf0978t8 __________________________________________________ BritDisc mailing list [email protected] http://www.fysh.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/britdisc Staying informed - http://www.ukultimate.com/staying-informed
