Hi Folks

So 40 teams converged on the Mayflower Sports Centre in Plymouth for the
largest Iron Five we have ever held. With two teams not able to make it to
the start, a guy with a broken arm (Get well soon) and a few other injuries
occurring things could have had a more promising start. Get well soon
everyone.

Black 'Cushtie' Pillow (In case)
Blue fleece pullover (medium)
Black & Yellow Sleeping bag in green stuff sack
Brown CAT Boots

There were a couple of people asking about phones & wallets. We didn't have
any handed in but the sports centre will call me if they have any wallets
found while cleaning. If you need to get hold of the sports centre to see
if there was anything else call them on 01752564564.

Congratulations must go Evesham Ultimate for playing in their third Iron
Five final in three years and winning the title for the second time. I must
also mention the tournament support staff, Jam, Lyne, James & Santa.
Without them I couldn't even start to run tournaments. Thanks to Lookfly
for letting us run a shop on their behalf.

Now I did have a few technical problems with the schedule. We found out
only two weeks ago that the third pitch would not be available until 10am on
Saturday. This put the schedule in a position where by if it fell behind it
would have a knock on effect to the rest of the tournament. I didn't
realise how critical until the guy from goon squad broke his arm (I can't
remember you name). This put pitch three so far behind that the final game
in each round was happening after the next game began. In reality this can
not happen with swiss draw.

I amended this on the spreadsheet and as I dragged the cell around it broke
the set up (The lesson is never let any one tell you that Open Office is
identical to Excel). This solved some of the problems and created some more
but it meant the tournament could carry on running. To make sure things
were working Santa & myself sat down when we got back to our hotel and went
through things. Santa even did a hand calculation on the points situation.
What transpired was that it was only the forth game that teams played that
the sheet had incorrectly transposed. I also had to rewrite the system for
the bottom 6 because two teams could not make the tournament. This was
months of planning down the drain. Thanks for the help Santa.

Several teams played each other twice on Saturday. This could be an
unfortunate coincidence of the rotation that I pre-set matching teams to
closer opposition as the tournament went on. I'm still unclear on what
happened there and I will look at it closely. In my defence I played a
tournament a few years ago where I played 4 teams in 7 games. So it does
happen in other tournaments with other systems.

One piece of feed back I had was that the information was flowing too slowly
from me to you. This is true and I can only say sorry. I'm not good enough
at the coding to provide a screen or projector for the information. This
would have been a source for confusion because the spreadsheet made bad
assumptions regarding who you would play. I will work on this and provide a
better solution in future.

If you have anything constructive to say please let me know. I wish to make
the tournaments we run as good as we can. We always have a look at what
happens at each tournament to see how we can make it better. For instance
last year we ran the BULA spirit scoring system. That proved to be too much
for all of us and so we did a single vote this year.
