Dear Britdisc,
Following a successful domestic season Fire of London have two aims
for 2010: First, to achieve a high finishing position at WUCC in
Prague, and second, to develop a large number of players for 2011 and
beyond.
In order to achieve these goals we are adopting a novel practice
structure: The Worlds team will practice monthly, usually on both days
of the weekend, and there will be joint practices on the other
weekends. Players selected for the Worlds team will not have to attend
the joint practices, but they will be encouraged to do so.
Furthermore, the joint practices will be run by the club captains and
so they will be a unique opportunity for up-and-coming players to be
exposed to high level ultimate.
We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and athletic people with a
great attitude for both the worlds team and the second team.
We are also looking to attract high level players who want to play at
Worlds, and for whom the monthly practice arrangement fits. For
example, those who are taking University finals this year, but who
might be moving to London in the future.
PRE-SEASON OPEN PRACTICES AND WINTER LEAGUE
In order for potential recruits to get a feel for Fire, we are now
holding open practices on the following dates:
Sat 28th Nov, 10am-12pm
Sat 5th Dec, 10am-12pm
Sun 24th Jan, 10am-12pm
These sessions will be structured and incorporate drills and games.
They will be run by the Fire of London coaches. Anyone is welcome to
attend, but please ensure that you contact us ahead of time so we can
plan the sessions according to the number of people we have (contact
details at the bottom of this email).
Fire are also entering into London Winter League. This too is open to
all-comers. If you want to play with Fire during LWL then please
contact us as soon as possible.
TRIALS
In February we will be holding official trials on:
Sat 13th Feb & Sun 21st Feb
Selection will be made immediately after these sessions, but several
slots will be left open in the Worlds team for inexperienced, but
quickly developing players. In addition, there will also be
opportunities for new recruits to play in EUCF (Euros) next year too.
If you are interested in playing for Fire and cannot make one of these
dates, please let us know.
FIRST TEAM PRACTICES
The provisional dates for the monthly first team trainings are:
27th & 28th Feb
20th & 21st Mar
24th & 25th April
8th & 9th May
5th & 6th June
We will also be aiming to attend at least one high-standard
international tournament as a warm up for WUCC. Open team trainings
will be held on either a Saturday or Sunday, three weekends a month
and will be built around competitive drills, skills development, and
games.
