This weekend saw the inaugral Kaliningrad Open tournament, co-hosted by Eastern European Ultimate and York Ultimate. Twenty brave teams travelled from far and wide to unite on indoor pitches that were colder than outside, and everyone contributed to a great weekend, playing hard and partying hard. This was a tournament that was both classic and classless; equal and not to be equalled; high in spirit and in spirits.
The results were: 1 Mustard (WINNERS) = YOpen = Curious Bacon = Hull of a Team = Discplace = EEEU = Преступление и наказание (Prestuplenie i nakazanie) = Phoenix Knights = Low Percentage Heroes (PLATE) = Some Team = Something French = See This! = Flying High = See What? = Fish 1 = Disc-guise = Ramon Mercader's Concealed Icepick (Spoon) = Fish 2 = Flying Low = Manor Vikings The final was cracking, won by Mustard in sudden death, and the MVP of the final was Jake Ewan Aspin from YOpen. Spirit was won jointly by Mustard and Fish 1, but every single team got at least one spirit vote and spirit was really great all round. The costume prize went to Flying Low for some brilliantly co-ordinated costumes, and Disc-guise won the party prize, although Mustard and Hull of a Team deserve a mention too. There was a fair bit of lost property including a coat, a watch, a couple of discs and a few other bits and pieces. If you think you've lost something please email me at * [email protected] *. Many thanks to all of our comrades who helped out, and all those who came. We hope to make KO an annual fixture as part of our five year plan, so watch this space...
