Just a quick(ish) point about what being a UKU member means in regards to London Summer League. I wasnt very clear just now because we had implemented this rule at winter league. Thinking about it, that was pretty daft given that lots of people who play summer league dont play winter league. And therefore wouldnt know what I was on about!
The UKU membership required for summer league is the basic version - £5. NOT the full UKU version. Im not a public liability expert so I wont go into detail about what it achieves but it protects all the organisers of the league and the teams, and the players themselves from nasty situations that could arise if players or members of the public are adversely affected by our games. It is NOT full blown insurance and does NOT allow you to injure opposition players or members of the public at will! Just in case you werent sure. ;) We are aware that summer league is all about fun and not having serious stuff attached to it, but at the same time we have to protect ourselves and our players from potentially dangerous legal situations. This membership does this. As an aside, people can try the sport out and play twice without having to pay the fee and still be covered. We just ask team captains to do not exploit this rule, which we put in to help encourage new players, and get people to sign up once they are a proper team member. Sorry for that but just thought it worth clarifying. Please ask if you need any more info but be assured this extra layer of membership is a vital part of the league dealing with the fact that it is more organised and therefore more susceptible to possible issues than ever before. Well write a full and (legally accurate!) explanation in the captains pack. This is just my attempt to explain it to those that might think this is a bit of a random charge. Ill leave you alone now.
