Hi BD,

Just a note about 2nd (and 3rd etc.) teams at regionals. The UK rules state only that we're following the EUCS rules; the EUCS rules are quite loose regarding second teams at Regionals/EUCQ. We would like to clarify the situation somewhat.

Under EUCS rule 4.5 (http://eucs.efdf.org/2010/eligibility.html), large clubs can split their teams however they like at regionals, and then recombine them for nationals. This presents problems for the schedule, however - if a second team takes a qualifying spot that they then turn down, a schedule that has been written to find the qualifying teams (with e.g. a 3v4 playoff) won't work properly. A team can be knocked out by a team that isn't even intending to go to Nationals.

On the other hand, in a region like Scotland with few teams and only one qualifying place, it is in everyone's interests for a large club to enter as many teams as possible, since it makes no difference to the qualification and just increases the number of teams.

Therefore we do not intend to change the rules at this late stage; but we do politely ask teams not to enter a 2nd or 3rd team which has a chance of competing for a qualifying spot at the expense of another club, unless that team is planning to enter Nationals. [Remember that you cannot add players to your roster after Nationals/EUCR (EUCS rule 4.6) - so if your club does send a 2nd team to nationals, these players may not join the 1sts for the European finals].

If any clubs are already intending to enter a competitive second team to regionals and will be inconvenienced by changing their plans at this late stage, please get in touch so we can discuss ways of solving the problems this may cause.

Thanks,
Benji
