For clubs that have (or would like to have) players that are under 18
involved in their practices, etc, please see our new "Safeguarding for
ultimate clubs" pack on the website. Its here (no doubt BD will chop the
link as usual...):

At this stage its really just relevant to those clubs that have under-18
players around. We've tried to make it as simple as possible - and it is
organised in such a way that any club can fill in a relatively small amount
of information and adopt the policy directly as their own. NB - you still
need some people in the club that know and understand what is involved.

I appreciate that some of those clubs have already done work to set this
sort of policy up. We are NOT asking you to ditch what you have done and
replace it with this.

For the purposes of getting club committees thinking about this, we are
looking at the need to set up a simple club-affiliation process in the
relatively near future. There are actually quite a few different reasons
for wanting to do this - but the most pressing is almost certainly so that
we have visibility of all the Ultimate clubs with under-18 members, and help
to communicate better with them about what they need.

Other key reasons are eg:
1. To make sure we have a formal communication channel with our clubs -
amazingly we really do not have that at the moment.

2. Make sure information about clubs is up to date - and in particular
ensure that we can properly identify clubs that are open to new players.
Our inability as a community to pass would-be new players (young or
not-so-young) to clubs in a reliable way is really embarrassing.

3. To give club committees access to low-cost public liability insurance by
extending the cover the UKU already has for members and as an organisation
itself. More and more clubs are having to have this sort of cover in order
to obtain practice facilities; others I know are just aware of the risks for
committee members and want them better managed.

Anyway - this was really an announcement about the Safeguarding material -
just seemed like a good chance to give folks notice about the club
affiliation.
