Afternoon BritDisc, Last weekend, in spite of snow and its resultant leisure centre closures, Santa's Surrey Slingfest 2010 took place in Arctic Guildford, for what can only be described as the best Christmas-themed Ultimate tournament hosted by a team from the University of Surrey in 2010. The tournament took place at the brand-spanking-new Surrey Sports Park, following the closure of University sports centre that had hosted so many Slingfests previously.
After squeezing the majority of Saturday's scheduled play into Sunday, we had our "Most Christmassy Champions of 2010": 1. Rough Sleepers (CHAMPIONS) 2. Octojizz Spazzattack 3. Get In My Van 4. Disconduct 5. Hammer Or Gay 6. Dragon Grads. 7. Reading Dragons 8. Kent 9. Cutty Sharks (PLATE) 10. Surrey Shredder 11. Army Of The Goatboy 12. Roehampton 13. Southsea Commoners 14. Brunel 15. Surrey Rocksteady 16. Ugly Ducklings 17. Swansea Grads (SPOON) 18. Surrey Bebop 19. Discs At Dawn 20. Pick Up Team Spirit went to Roehampton, with Surrey Shredder runners-up. Party award went to Hammer or Gay for their "Bird is the Word" effort. Three-way-tied for runners-up were Discs At Dawn, Surrey Bebop and Surrey Rocksteady. In terms of lost property, there wasn't a great deal found at the end of Sunday. As yet unclaimed are some trainers, and a pair of red/green gloves. Many thanks to all teams for braving the snow and for making this the biggest Slingfest ever. Once again, we apologise for the late-notice closure of Guildford Spectrum on Saturday which meant half of teams didn't get a game until Sunday; we were very much at the mercy of their decisions this weekend. Once we receive refunding from Spectrum (less the additional cost of extra pitch time at the Sports Park to cover the lost pitch time at Spectrum), this will be refunded to those affected teams. Surrey Sports Park has been booked for December 2011 already, so all play will be taking place there next year, as we look to find out who will be Most Christmassy Champions 2011. See you all next year! The Surrey Scorpions. __________________________________________________ BritDisc mailing list [email protected] http://www.fysh.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/britdisc Staying informed - http://www.ukultimate.com/staying-informed
