Hi BD, It was almost looking like a family affair with Devon Ultimate contributing more than half the teams to the tournament. With Cardiff Storm & Bristol Ultimate being the other contributing clubs, the flight for the two National Finals qualifying spots was always going to be tough.
First match was designed to give both Cardiff & Bristol the best chance at an early bid on a qualifying spot. Both teams new they would have to bring their A-game to take Devon 1 on a bad day and so through everything into the first match. Bristol pulled out an early lead to give a small comfort zone but Cardiff was not going to roll over and die. However, time was not on Cardiff’s side and when time was called Bristol had the upper hand with enough left to bring the game to them. The final result was the closest of the day at 12-7 to Bristol. The rest of the tournament went to seed. Cardiff skinning Devon 2 in the final game and Bristol cruising into second place to make it to National Finals. However, Devon 3 probably goes home with the prize for the greatest gain for putting 5 points past Devon 2, a 500% gain on the previous meeting in 2010. Congratulations to Devon Ultimate 1 & Bristol Ultimate for qualifying for the UKU National Finals. Best of luck and go show the rest of the UK what the west country can bring.
