Dear Paul, Thank you for your email about the GB U20 national trial date. Sorry for the delay in our reply but we wanted to make sure it was a whole team response.
We always welcome feedback from coaches and players; it has a key role in guiding our future decisions, especially as these regional days are new this year and no new system is ever going to be perfect. This feedback will be passed on to the whole of the GB junior staff team and where necessary to other members of the UKU. I know Si Hill has already spoken to you personally about this and fed back the key points of that discussion to me. We are keen to work on those points, particularly consultation and communication, but most importantly keeping the juniors' interests at heart. The GB Junior U20 staff were aware of the clash but we decided this would be the best option out of a set of bad options. As we all know the UKU calendar is tight and is getting tighter every year, so we did what we could to avoid conflicting dates. Once we made sure we didn't clash with any Junior and University dates it left us no other options but to clash with a open tournament. It's not ideal but it is the best we can do. So to remind juniors, the national trial will still be going ahead on the weekend of the 19th and 20th of Novermber, venue to be confirmed. If you wish to be considered for the U20 Open worlds squad it is compulsory that you attend the national trial weekend. If you are unable to attend the day we would be happy to look at this on a individual basis, so please contact myself. Also to remind juniors that the national trial is invite only, so if you wish to receive a invite to the trial please attend one of the upcoming regional skills days: 29th October - Midlands. Arthur Terry School, Kittoe Road, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, B74 4RZ >From 11am - 5pm 30th October - Wirral. Calday Grange Grammar School, Grammar School Lane, CH48 8GG >From 11am-5pm These skills days are open to all juniors, whatever age or skill level. If you are unable to attend either of these days but wish to be invited to the U20 Open trial weekend, then please let us know as we can review each case individually. Please contact myself ([email protected]) for more details.
