For anybody who's interested about spirit (which should be a lot of you!), and has any statistical knowledge whatsoever - I have compiled a spreadsheet of the spirit scores from all the tournaments (for which I can get them) over the last year or so. The data is anonymous. I really need somebody with a little more numerical skill to have a look at the data and see if they can draw any conclusions. I'm interested in finding a relationship between finishing position and spirit score.
For those with no interest at all in statistics, but who have read this post - the only real conclusion that I can draw so far is that: There is a tendency for the winning team to have significantly better spirit than the average, but more importantly - than the 2nd and 3rd placed teams (simply averaged over 30 tournaments). 1: 1.04 2: 0.97 3: 0.95... If you are interested in examining this - then please email me for the data, which you may use as you wish - please let me know your findings and methods! I'm sure that the findings will be greatly enhanced by the imminent release of the UOON spirit scores, and also the upcoming Open Tour season.
