Ladies and Gentlemen,

At the beginning of June, hundreds of proud patriots gathered together just outside Leicester to celebrate everything that is glorious about this fair isle. The accompanying jubilee celebrations, thoughtfully laid on by Liz to make sure the rest of the country didn’t miss out, only enhanced what was already a festival of Britannic proportions.

Miss out they did though, as this year’s British Thumber Time was truly stupendous.

Days of downpours did nothing to dampen (metaphorically at least) the spirits of the players who attended. In fact they gave everyone an excuse to air out long forgotten flying muscles and truly ‘get ho’ in pursuit of ultimate success.

Each night everyone rolled out in their finery to enjoy live music, stimulating debate and an awful lot of port. It would in indecorous of me to list many of the goings on which enfolded, but needless to say despite the weather everyone pulled together (literally in many cases) to have a damned fine time. Sometimes they even kept their clothes on to do it.

The final scores are below, but I think we’d all agree that Britain was the ultimate winner:

1 - Dazed & Confused (12.9) [CHAMPIONS]
2 - Lemmings (11.3)
3 - Some Team (12.0)
4 - Jest Ridisculous (10.5)
5 - Ashes (12.2)
6 - St Albans (12.1)
7 - HoG (12.7)
8 - OMG-WD (11.5)
9 - Low % Heroes (12.1) [PLATE]
10 - See This! (11.5)
11 - P Star (12.6)
12 - Bangor (12.5)
13 - Reading Knights (10.9)
14 - Salopian Skimmers (11.2)
15 - Durhamazing (11.5)
16 - Diamond Cutters (11.5)
17 - Royally Hucked (12.6) [SPOON]
18 - Big Damn Heroes (12.8)
19 - BRB Experience (10.8)
20 - Demons (10.9)
21 - Red (11.4)
22 - Swansea Ugly Ducklings (12.3)
23 - Jesters (10.7)
24 - Carlisle Lakers (14.4) [SPIRIT]

Over the weekend (and before) we gave players the opportunity to test themselves in a variety of other ways as well, and here are the victors:

- Our ‘Right Royal Quiz’ was won by none other than the BRB Experience, who demonstrated an unmatched knowledge of the royal family and associated trivia.

- Our Beer Pong Tournament was won by Ed Barkham and Rob Bordoli, after a tense three-way final battle in the middle of the dancefloor.

- Our internet sensation ‘Queen Memes’ (www.memethequeen.tumblr.com) was resoundingly won by Emily Smith, for her most diverting rendition of the unfortunate tale of Max Allars at last years event.

Thanks to everyone’s love of cake and drinks that end in ‘bomb’ we were also able to raise hundreds of pounds for our chosen charities. The final pennies are still being counted, but on behalf of Mad Foundation and Ultimate Peace we’d like to thank you all sincerely for your donations.

All that’s left is for me to wish you all a superb time during this tremendously British year and invite to keep an eye on www.facebook.com/ThumberTime for news of future events from the team at SMT Towers…

TTFN,

Jaff & Co at SMT
