Dear All, I haven't been paying terribly close attention, but I don't think I've seen many messages updating on GB progress at Worlds. I suspect the whole of UK Ultimate is in Japan and it's just me, Wigsy and some old guy called Harvey who've been left behind.
Anyway, earlier this morning GB Open beat Australia in their quarter final. No great surprise there, but in the other quarter the Swedes overcame Japan, which I guess must come as a big shock. This sets up a GB v Sweden semi final which, by my lazy calculations, takes place at 1.00am British "Summer" Time. It's available for live streaming via http://www.ngnultimate.com/schedule at a cost of $5. At the time of writing I'm aiming to get up and watch it, but then I am a very old man and may just doze right through. However, if anyone else is doing the same then hopefully we can get a little twitter back-channel chat going too. I cannot stress sufficiently how little time and effort I have put into working out what time this game actually starts, and I cannot be held responsible if you get up at 1.00am and find out you've missed the whole thing and it was amazing. Do your own sums. Good luck GB Open. Let's hope the ups are up and the downs really stay down this time. In other news GB Mixed lost their quarter final to the USA 15-12. Looking at the scoring breakdown it seems they lost a couple of early breaks and then the rest of the game was traded. Haven't heard any more, but it looks from this like they held their own well against a tough team, but I know they didn't go over there looking for honourable defeat. GB Women survived a late 3-point run to beat Germany in sudden death, 11-12. I think that means they are now playing Australia tomorrow for 5th place. GB Masters beat France and New Zealand today and thus finish 5th. Half the squad will be hospitalised with sake poisoning by now, I imagine. The Women Masters seem to have played Australia twice today and are now set to play Germany to decide 5th place. I think that's it. Good luck to everyone in their remaining games and who knows, by this time tomorrow we could be gearing up for a GB Open appearance in the Worlds final.
