After a 5 year sabbatical, Liverpool University would like to proudly announce the return of the Not The Grand National, Liverpool’s premiere outdoor tournament. It will be run on the 30th and 31st of March, with the aim to be running a 24 team tournament, over 8 pitches on the Wyncote’s University Sports Grounds. In the past teams have come from as far as Scotland and London to play, and we hope this will be true again. Whether you see this tournament as a chance to prepare for University nationals, warm up for Tour in the summer, as a replacement for Paga or just a chance to play some fun competitive Ultimate with your mates, then this is the tournament for you. All teams University open and mixed, club open and mixed and women’s are welcome, and encouraged to come and play in what I hope will be a Grand return for this tournament. Depending on the range of teams that attend, there may be the possibility of splitting the tournament itself into 2/3 divisions to ensure that everyone is playing against teams of their own level. On site changing rooms and shower facilities will be available, and the grounds are right next door to a huge Tesco for all your tournament nutritional needs. We will aim to run some sort of social/party on the Saturday night, though I will wait for feedback from teams as to whether we want social/messy night out. As it is outside term time accommodation will not be provided as we cannot guarantee the number of students who will be available for hosting. In light of this we have kept the price of the tournament to a very reasonable £100 per team (yes i have dropped this price – the venue is costing less than originally expected). I’ve recently received notification that we will be receiving FIVE sponsorship for this tournament. They will be providing a considerable amount of merchandise (t-shirts, shorts, caps, sweatbands, and whatever else they can think off) to be given away as prizes.
