The Beatles AND The Rolling Stones AND The Who! How's THAT for an awesome bill??? The occasion was the 1966 edition of the annual New Musical Express Poll Winners' Concert, held at Empire Pool in Wembley, featuring, as it did every year, sets by a whole lotta bands and singers. If getting to see the above mentioned holy trinity of rock all in one show wasn't enough for the lucky 10,000 in attendance (who couldn't have known at the time they were witnessing The Beatles' very last British live performance ever), they also got to see performances by The Yardbirds. The Small Faces. The Spencer Davis Group. Herman's Hermits. The Walker Brothers. The Alan Price Set. The Seekers. Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich. Roy Orbison. Dusty Springfield. Sounds Incorporated. Cliff Richard and The Shadows. The Fortunes, and Crispian St. Peters. That's a mighty cool bill, I'd say...and all for the price of just a few English pounds! But now it's 2005...and I'll soon be shelling out about 60 bucks (that is, if I'm lucky and get a cheap seat) just to see Paul McCartney at Madison Square Garden. ------------------------ Yahoo!
