Julian Lennon, John Lennon's (THE BEATLES) son with his first wife Cynthia, has
posted the following message on his official Facebook page:
"I had the pleasure of going to see Glenn Hughes [BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, DEEP
PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, TRAPEZE) play tonight [Tuesday, October 5] in Islington
[England]. I can say, without a doubt, he is one of the best
singers/songwriters/performers I have ever seen. His range is mind-blowing! And
his talent knows no bounds...
"If he's playing in your neighbourhood, I urge you to go see him play LIVE,
whether with BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION or as a solo artist.
"Just amazing... Initially the show explodes with rock tunes, the likes of
which have been missing from our airwaves for many years now, but then Glenn
also opens up and shows us his abilities as a funk/jazz/soul/blues performer.
"Outstanding...
"A GREAT night out! Looks like we might try a little writing together too..."
The self-titled debut album from BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION — the Anglo/American
rock supergroup featuring Hughes, drummer Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN), Derek
Sherinian (DREAM THEATER) and blues rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa — has entered
the official U.K. chart at position No. 13. The CD, which was made available in
Europe on Monday, September 20 via Mascot Records and North America on Tuesday,
September 21 through J&R Adventures, was produced and mixed by Kevin Shirley
(BLACK CROWES, AEROSMITH, LED ZEPPELIN), and mastered by the legendary Bob
Ludwig. It was recorded at Shangri-La Studios in early 2010.
Hughes' latest solo CD, "First Underground Nuclear Kitchen (F.U.N.K.)",
received its official North American release on October 7, 2008 via Blistering
Records through Ryko/Warner distribution. The CD came out in Europe in May 2008
via Frontiers Records.
Produced by Glenn in Los Angeles, after countless hours spent writing in his
home studio, "F.U.N.K." was another magnificent statement from the "Voice of
Rock." "It is a roots album, it is a true account of my musical heritage but
also fearless and multi-dimensional," Hughes said shortly after the CD's
release. Once again all drums on the record were played by none other than the
great Chad Smith of the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, while Luis Maldonado took care
of the majority of the guitars (JJ Marsh and George Nastos only appear on two
songs each) and Anders Olinder is on keyboards (with Ed Roth guesting on three
songs).
