'allo folks, Sean redirected my mail about mid-term evaluations to this list, so this time it's me who submits to the list directly. I write this message as a kind of summary of my project, from my point of view of course :)
Useful URLs before starting: - http://brlcad.org/wiki/OpenGL_GUI_Framework - http://brlcad.org/wiki/User:Mafm#Log I think that I more or less met all the goals, with these comments in particular: - The communication with the back-end is not properly with the back-end (it uses libged directly, not through a network) and it's very basic, only a few commands are working so far. I'm using libged directly because the protocol to communicate via network is still under construction and there was no much time remaining (this was the last goal that I pursued). - For the input modes I think that the one copying blender is fully working, and Shift-grips is working for most of the combinations, but I don't have fully grasped the inner workings in some aspects (e.g. the restricted modes). There's additionally a simple "orbital mode". In general, Sean and I were talking about this and he would have prefer to have more polished working code, even if the number of features or implemented areas wasn't as high as initially planned. However, I usually tend to work in spiral way especially for new projects, implementing major parts and then refining them until they work as desired. It was my understanding this approach was also better for GSoC and a project like this, and since Sean didn't put much opposition I continued to work in this way. One of the benefits of this way is that, since now most of the parts are in place, people can start chiming in (in fact some people already did) and work in some areas independent of others, while they already have some infrastructure which somewhat works and can display geometries and things like that. I already submitted the final evaluation survey based in what I have said so far, and without any significant changes since mid-term evaluation. So what now? Well, I have to take a break for a few days (broken laptop, finding a new house, visit to the family...) but I expect to continue to work on it after this little break. I will be connected regularly during the break (and after that) and will be happy in participating in discussions, doubts, coordinating efforts of people wanting to work on this, and so on. Finally, thank you to all people responsible (culprit? :P) for letting me take part in this experience, cheers to my co-gsocers who also made a great job as far as I know, and thank you all the rest of people for making this a pleasant experience :) Regards. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ BRL-CAD Developer mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/brlcad-devel
